02.05.07 - Meeting with the Minister of Defense  The representatives of the non-state sector and journalists had meeting with the Defense Minister, Mr. David Kezerashvili, the deputy head of the Join Staff ,Mr. Vladimir Chachibaya, and other representatives of the MOD. Prior to this meeting, was the conference, organized in April, 26, 2007 by the association “Justice and Liberty” and “Georgia to Nato”, concerning the issue of transparency of the MOD and access to public information. Exactly at this conference the representatives of the MOD and civil sector agreed on the activation of cooperation, and as the result of this agreement the meeting with the minister has been conducted after few days. 26.04.07 - The results of the monitoring “the Transparency of the Ministry of Defense”  The association “Justice and Liberty” has conducted a monitoring concerning the transparency of the Ministry of Defense and provision of information. The aim of the monitoring was revelation of positive and negative sides in relations of the Ministry of Defense and the society, as well as preparation of adequate recommendations. Within the bounds of monitoring, the 13 representatives of mass media and civil sector were surveyed. The reason for this is the book “The Army and Democracy” published by military experts. It views in detail the experience of western countries in relation to NATO as well as recommendations which can accelerate the process of Georgia’s NATO membership and promote development of democratic reforms in the army.
